Statement of Congresswoman Baldwin on President Bush's Proposed Federal Budget

Statement of Congresswoman Baldwin on President Bush's Proposed Federal Budget
February 8, 2005

The President's budget is certainly no roadmap to a better future for America's working families. This is a budget that does not reflect Wisconsin priorities or values.

By failing to include the enormous costs for the war in Iraq and for his Social Security privatization plan in the budget, the President is only telling us part of the story. But, even the part he is telling us is deeply disturbing. Mr. Bush places a much higher priority on making his tax breaks for the rich permanent - at a cost of one trillion dollars over ten years, than taking steps to promote broad prosperity for working Americans. His budget slashes funding for veterans, health care and education.

Sadly, this President has chosen once again, to reward the wealthiest Americans, while asking working families to sacrifice more.
