Dear Friend,

I would like to send my warmest regards to you and your family this Father's Day. Now more than ever, we look to these role models to strengthen our community and provide strong, positive examples for our children.

In this week's newsletter you will find more news from the Second District and information about Running Start - a bipartisan political summit that helps teach leadership skills to young women interested in public service.

In addition, you will find the latest updates on my bill to protect cancer patients from damaging cuts - also known as H.R. 1416 -- The Cancer Patient Protection Act of 2013. Congress passed a bill to protect air travelers from flight delays, but cancer patients are still waiting.

Finally, I was pleased to announce additional satellite office hours and locations throughout the Second District. We hope this will make it easier for constituents to access the services my office provides and make travelling more convenient. The full list of hours and locations is provided below for your convenience.

Thank you for your interest in the issues important to your community. Please share this information with your friends by forwarding this email or using the "Tell a Friend" form and social media "share" buttons in the right sidebar.

Also, please follow me at ellmers.house.gov and on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest for additional infomation about the work I am doing in Washington and in the Second District.

Protecting Cancer Patients

Last week, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), informed Congress that they do not have the authority to exempt cancer drugs from sequestration cuts. This letter only reinforces the fact the need to pass my bill - H.R. 1416 - which will protect cancer patients from cuts which have already gone into effect. This week, Yahoo News reported new updates on this and my stance on the issue.

If you are not a resident of the Second District, please follow this link to find contact information for your representative and ask them to co-sponsor H.R. 1416.
Supporting Young Women in Politics

If you are a young woman and interested in public service, check out this new initiative from a great organization called Running Start. For three days this summer, you can join 300 young women from across the country at their Young Women's Political Summit July 12th -- 14th in Washington, DC. The Summit is for young women who want to run for public office, hone their leadership skills, and strengthen their connections in the political world. This is a bipartisan event open to girls and young women of all ideological backgrounds. Click here for more information.
Spotlight on the District

A member of my staff, Bryan Fox, attended the ceremony to rename the Cary, N.C., Army Reserve center after Spc. Daniel Lucas Elliott. He presented a congressional record entry honoring the fallen soldier and thanked members of his family for his service.

The Association of Defense Communities recognized the Fort Bragg Regional Alliance with this year's 2013 Defense Community/State of the Year Award. The award recognizes our base for serving as a national model to community-military partnership organizations that enhance the effectiveness of military missions, efficiency of installations, and the economic strength of communities.

It was an honor to join Greg Taylor (Fort Bragg Regional Alliance Executive Director) and Jean Powell (Hoke Co. Commissioner and Chair of the Alliance's Board of Directors) at the award ceremony this week.
New Satellite Office Hours and Locations for Second District Constituents

This week, I announced additional services for constituents in ten area locations throughout the Second District. These locations and times will be added to help ease the burden of residents travelling to existing district offices in Dunn and Asheboro.

Staff members are prepared to aide constituents in their dealings with the federal government and these new services will help provide on-the-spot guidance for cases involving active military, veterans, IRS, social security, and any other issues pertaining to the federal government. Staff members will also be available at other times in the main district offices in Dunn and Asheboro.

Below you will find a complete list of locations and office hours for the 113th Congress. For more information, please visit our website or call our office in Dunn at (910) 230-1910.
