Chief Deputy Whip Peter Roskam (R-IL) released the following statement on the passage of H.R. 1911, the Smarter Solutions for Students Act:
"In just over a month, student loan interest rates will double from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent. To prevent this, the House passed a permanent solution today tying rates back to the free market, a more predictable and affordable method for students and parents trying to finance a college education. Even President Obama's budget includes a proposal to shift back to a market-based approach. With this mounting bipartisan support, we can end the perpetual can-kicking and Washington back-and-forth to solve this once and for all for students and families."
