Today, Congresswomen Diana DeGette (D-CO) and Louise M. Slaughter (D-NY), co-chairs of the House Pro-Choice Caucus, released the following statement in response to the House Judiciary Committee's passage of a bill that bans all abortions after 20 weeks with no exceptions for victims of rape or incest:
"At a time when Americans want their elected officials to focus on creating jobs and building our economy, the House Majority has instead once again decided to reignite its war on women. The proposal passed today by the House Judiciary Committee is nothing more than a blatant attempt by extreme politicians to end a woman's access to a legal medical procedure. It clearly violates constitutional rights and furthermore contains no exception for victims of rape or incest. Doctors and their patients should be the ones making personal medical decisions, not politicians."
