House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) released the following statement today after President Barack Obama nominated Jason Furman to be the next Chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisors:
"I am pleased that President Obama has nominated Jason Furman as Chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisors. Mr. Furman brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this new responsibility, having played key roles on President Obama's economic team helping to shape our economic recovery and fiscal policy. He has been an invaluable resource to House Democrats over the years, and he will be a key resource to the President as negotiations continue over how best to achieve fiscal stability while maintaining our investments in job creation and a strong, growing middle class.
"I join in thanking Alan Kreuger for his service as Chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisors, and I wish him well as he returns to Princeton to resume teaching. I urge the Senate to move quickly to confirm Mr. Furman as his successor."
