Rooney: Keystone Means Jobs, Energy, Security

Statement

U.S. Representative Tom Rooney (FL-17) today praised House passage of the Northern Route Approval Act, H.R. 3, to authorize and expedite construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline.

"Do we want to help create thousands of jobs or not? Do we want to get our energy from North America, or should we keep depending on Venezuela and the Middle East? Are we willing to let this critical energy source go to China, or do we want to keep it here?" Rooney asked.

"Building the Keystone Pipeline will create thousands of Americans jobs, invest in our energy future, and improve our national security by reducing our dependence on countries that wish us harm -- all at no cost to the taxpayer.

"The President has had ample time and evidence to approve Keystone, including an analysis from his own State Department projecting the project will support 42,100 jobs and have a minimal impact on the environment, but he has refused. Now it's time for the Senate to follow the House's lead and pass this bipartisan bill to boost our economy and improve our energy security."
