Today Dr. Raul Ruiz (D-Palm Desert) released the following statement regarding the passage of H.R. 2216, the Fiscal Year 2014 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act:

"We have an obligation to ensure that our men and women in uniform receive the high-quality care they have earned for their sacrifice to our country. I am pleased that this bipartisan legislation continues our commitment to America's veterans and military personnel by providing the benefits they deserve and the resources necessary to maintain a strong national defense.

"This bill takes critical steps to address the unacceptable disability claims backlog and makes key investments in veterans' health care, including much-needed resources to convert paper medical records to electronic medical records. These are the kind of common sense initiatives that both Democrats and Republicans can agree on, and I applaud my colleagues for coming together in a bipartisan way to pass this legislation."
