Boustany Signs Letter in Support of Common-Sense Flood Insurance Reform

Statement

Date: June 4, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D., (R-South Louisiana) issued the following statement after signing a letter with three of his Louisiana colleagues to Associate Administrator of the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration David Miller expressing concern regarding the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) implementation of the Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012:

"Louisiana's coastal residents deserve a workable flood insurance program making it possible for them to enjoy the quality of life on the Gulf while operating our state's valuable fisheries, refineries, and ports. Unfortunately, the federal government's involvement in this program has created severe affordability challenges as well as uncertainty all across the coast.

"The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) can do a better job in the implementation of this statute. I have invited Associate Administrator of the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration David Miller to Louisiana to see firsthand how his agency's decisions are affecting the coastal communities in our state. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Louisiana delegation to ensure this issue is resolved as soon as possible."
