John Kline issued a statement today after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Northern Route Approval Act (H.R. 3), legislation introduced by Rep. Lee Terry (Neb.), which approves the Keystone pipeline:
"This month, Minnesota had the highest average gas price per gallon in the lower 48 states. With Memorial Day approaching -- the kickoff to the Minnesota lakes and cabin season -- energy prices are at the forefront as my constituents face skyrocketing gas prices that are $4.29 per gallon today. I continue to hear from countless hardworking Minnesotans who are tired of feeling pain at the pump and I agree with them -- misguided government policies and onerous regulations are unnecessary obstacles to increasing American energy, lowering gasoline prices, and more job creation.
"I was proud to support bipartisan legislation today that is a step -- one step -- toward the long-sought goal of North American energy independence and lower energy prices for all Americans. It would expand U.S. access to the third largest oil reserves in the world and supply an estimated 830,000 barrels of oil a day. It also would help create tens of thousands of private-sector jobs. I will continue to work with my colleagues in the House of Representatives from both sides of the aisle to increase our energy independence by repealing costly mandates and unlocking America's abundant energy resources."
