Congressman DesJarlais Calls for the Resignation of Attorney General Eric Holder

Statement

Date: May 15, 2013
Location: Washington, DC

"Whether it is Fast and Furious or this most recent scandal involving the Justice Department, the attorney general has shown he is either a complicit partner in these nefarious acts or an incompetent leader who has lost control of his agency. Either way, the American people deserve better and therefore Attorney General Eric Holder must resign.

"One would think that after Congress held the attorney general in contempt for refusing to cooperate during the Fast and Furious investigation he would work to make his agency more open, ethical and transparent. Unfortunately, he has chosen to do the exact opposite.

"I know that President Obama is often unwilling to hold his political allies accountable for their actions, but there is simply no way he can look the American people in the eye and tell them that Eric Holder is fit to continue to lead the Justice Department.

"We already know that the White House has little regard for the Second Amendment; now we have seen they share the same sentiments when it comes to the First. Despite what the administration may choose to believe, they are not above the Constitution and the promise it affords of a free press."
