Governor Corbett Thanks PA Senate for Holding Second Hearing on Liquor Privatization

Location: Harrisburg, PA

Governor Tom Corbett thanked the Senate Law and Justice Committee for holding its second hearing looking into privatizing Pennsylvania's wine and spirits system.

"I commend the Senate for continuing its discussion on bringing Pennsylvania consumers choice and convenience, and for keeping us moving toward a final product by June 30," Corbett said.

"As we've seen in other states, a private system will unleash the full job-creating potential of the free market. If we are to gain the advantage of greater consumer choice and greater convenience, we must not do it halfway," Corbett said. Corbett noted that getting the state out of the business of selling wine and spirits will provide great opportunities for private retailers.

"The proof can be seen in 48 other states, where the free market has flourished, from mom-and-pop shops to larger retailers, creating good-paying, private sector jobs. That is our goal, and I will continue to work with the Senate to get us there." Corbett said.
