In light of the recent deaths at the Atlanta Veterans Affairs (VA) medical center, Reps. Phil Gingrey, Tom Price, and David Scott demanded answers from the VA Under Secretary of Health. A report released by the Inspector General found "that there was inadequate coordination, monitoring, and staffing for oversight" for patients with mental health concerns.
"We owe our men and women in uniform a great debt of gratitude. In return for their service, the least we can do is strive to provide them with the highest quality of care," Gingrey said. "The deplorable conditions uncovered at the Atlanta VAMC are inexcusable. These patients and their families deserve answers and all veterans deserve assurances this will never happen again.
"I urge the Veterans Affairs Committee to continue congressional investigation and demand hearings be held here in Atlanta--not Washington, D.C.--so that patients, families, and the community may attend. I will continue working closely with the VFW and American Legion to provide information and updates as it becomes available." said Gingrey."
