Rep. Kelly Sends Letters to President Obama & UN Secretary-General Ban Urging Firing of Richard Falk from UN Human Rights Council

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA) issued the following statement today regarding two letters he authored and submitted to President Obama and to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon respectively calling upon each leader to publicly demand that the U.N. Human Rights Council remove "special rapporteur" Richard Falk from his official post. Each letter was signed by 25 congressional leaders, including House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX), House Deputy Whip Peter Roskam (R-IL), and Congressional Israel Allies Caucus co-chairmen Reps. Doug Lamborn (R-CO) and Trent Franks (R-AZ), among others.

"The longer Richard Falk remains with the U.N. Human Rights Council, the longer his twisted anti-American and anti-Israeli views are legitimized. By retaining Mr. Falk in an official capacity, the United Nations is providing cover for the hostile, often conspiratorial sentiments shared by terrorists and rogue nations around the globe -- sentiments that most recently manifested in the Boston terrorist attack. Make no mistake: Mr. Falk's continued presence at the U.N. risks spreading hatred for America and is putting American lives at risk. This is a national security issue. President Obama has a responsibility to stand up for America and demand that Richard Falk's time at the U.N. be brought to an immediate end. Secretary-General Ban must do the same."

NOTE: On Friday, April 19, 2013, U.N. Special Rapporteur for Palestinian issues Richard Falk published an essay in which he made repeated insinuations that the United States' "global domination" was the cause of the terrorist attack in Boston which occurred just four days prior. A growing number of prominent individuals and organizations have already denounced Mr. Falk, including U.N. Watch, which recently highlighted Mr. Falk's long history of anti-American and anti-Semitic statements.
