Gardner Calls on Federal Employees to Blow the Whistle on Bureaucratic Bosses

Location: Washington, DC

In light of recent reports that furloughs by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are intended to make sequestration "as hard as possible for the public," Congressman Cory Gardner (CO-04) is encouraging more federal employees to come forward and blow the whistle on this practice.

"The FAA furlough days are deliberately designed to inconvenience people and make sequestration as painful as possible to prove a political point," Gardner said. "We are counting on federal employees to call out this behavior when they see it happening. This isn't fair to travelers and it certainly isn't fair to the employees and their families who are losing income because of it."

Gardner has introduced a resolution reminding all federal employees that they are protected by whistleblower laws and have nothing to fear exposing politically motivated cuts to their departments. He also highlighted a report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) detailing $95 billion of waste and duplication in the federal government.

"There is plenty of waste and duplication that can be tackled before we start cutting people's pay and impeding air travel," Gardner said.
