Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) has released the following Tax Day statement:
"Tax Day is here and tens of millions of hardworking American families have again spent far too much time and money complying with a complicated and cumbersome tax code. According to the National Taxpayers Union (NTU), as of 2010, the Tax Code had more than 3.8 million words -- four times as many words as the complete works of Shakespeare and almost five times as many words as the King James Version of the Bible. The NTU reports the IRS estimates individuals will spend more than $35.2 billion for tax software, tax preparers, postage, and other out-of-pocket costs related to filing federal income tax. The American people deserve a fairer, simpler tax code that rewards rather than punishes success."
Congresswoman Hartzler, a resident of Cass County, serves on the House Budget, Armed Services, and Agriculture Committees.
