ongressman Mike Rogers sent a letter today to Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric K. Shinseki to receive additional information on the recent announcement of an initiative by Veterans Affairs to expedite compensation claims decisions for all Veterans who've waited for a year or longer. According to reports the backlog for claims is approximately 900,000.
The letter states, "While I applaud the VA's efforts to reduce decision times, I am concerned with the lack of information regarding the implementation of this new initiative. All Veterans deserve to have their claims decided in a timely fashion. I respectfully request that you closely monitor this new initiative to ensure that resources are not shifted away from other Veterans priorities and that the average processing time for new claims does not get longer.'
"Our Veterans have bravely served our country and they deserve the best we can give them. I plan to closely monitor this initiative as it moves forward," Rogers said.
Rogers serves as Chairman of the Strategic Forces subcommittee on the Armed Services Committee and is a senior member of the Homeland Security and Agriculture committees.
