U.S. Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) made the following statement today after union workers at American Crystal Sugar approved a new contract after a 20-month lockout.
"I am very pleased that the locked out workers at American Crystal Sugar have approved a new contract and will return to work very soon. The devastating 20-month lockout went on far too long, straining the well-being of workers, their families, and communities across the Red River Valley. I have met with the workers on several occasions and know that they are, and will remain, an important part of the company's future. I stand ready to work with both the workers and with company officials to help make their transition back to work as smooth as possible."
