As a party of a national "Day of Action" urging Congress to end Gun Violence, U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter continues his efforts to make gun violence less easy, less frequent, and less deadly.
Perlmutter said, "Colorado is leading the way to reduce gun violence because we know we can't wait another day, week or month. Now the country needs to follow Colorado's lead. Americans want Congress to take up common sense measures to keep guns out of dangerous hands through strengthened laws against straw purchasers and universal background checks. They will keep our kids and communities safer without infringing upon the rights of lawful and responsible gun owners. The families and victims of gun violence across the nation deserve a vote on these measures."
Last week, Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper signed laws requiring universal background checks for everyone when they sell and transfer a firearm and a ban on large capacity assault magazines holding more than 15 rounds.
Perlmutter is a vice chair of the House Gun Violence Prevention Task Force.
