Coats Questions National Guard Leadership on Joint Strike Fighters, Off-Ramp of Hoosier Guardsmen

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today questioned Air National Guard leadership about plans for replacing legacy A-10 aircraft with the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter during a subcommittee hearing on the administration's annual budget request for the National Guard and Reserve.

The Fort Wayne Air National Guard base is home to the 122nd Fighter Wing, which consists of 21 A-10 aircraft.

"This is an important issue for both the Fort Wayne area and the 122nd Fighter Wing," Coats said. "I appreciated today's update on the future of the Joint Strike Fighter and look forward to ongoing discussions about its basing requirements."

Coats also questioned leadership about the recent off-ramping of three Indiana National Guard units previously scheduled to deploy. These changes significantly impacted Hoosier Guardsmen and their families who had made decisions on schooling and housing.
