Rep. Kelly Criticizes President Obama's Budget Proposal

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Mike Kelly (R-PA) issued the following statement today regarding the unveiling of President Obama's budget proposal for fiscal year 2014, of which the legal deadline for submission was February 4, 2013.

"The president's budget is two months late and deserves a failing grade. Instead of making sure the American people's tax dollars are protected by getting Washington spending under control, President Obama's proposal actually increases spending and raises taxes by more than a trillion dollars. It does nothing to provide certainty for our private sector to create jobs, does nothing to protect or strengthen our nation's promises to the sick, poor, and elderly, and never even attempts to balance the federal budget.

"To this day, the only realistic and responsible budget currently on the table is the plan put forth by my colleagues in the House majority. Our plan accomplishes what the president's regrettably fails to do: it grows our economy and creates jobs by lowering tax rates, balances the budget in ten years, and preserves important priorities like Medicare for current seniors, soon-to-be-retirees, and future generations of Americans. The House budget is still the only plan that forces Washington to start following the same rule as every American family and business and begin living within in its means.

"America's ongoing jobs crisis and staggering debt requires a serious commitment from both sides in Washington to put the nation back on a path to prosperity and fiscal sanity. Unfortunately, the president has missed his opportunity to be part of the solution and, as evidenced by his disappointing budget, would rather grow the federal government than the American economy."
