Rep. Miller to Introduce Credit Union Regulatory Relief Legislation
The financial crisis had a devastating impact on our region. While I fully support effective regulation in the financial services sector, it is clear that credit unions did not contribute to the financial crisis. Unfortunately, they have been caught up in the wave of new regulations that have been imposed post-crisis. Instead of focusing on providing consumers in the Inland Empire and across our country access to credit and basic financial services, credit unions now have over five thousand pages of rules to implement just from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau alone.

Credit unions play a unique role in our economy. Unlike other financial institutions, they are cooperatives and exist to serve their members, allowing them to provide lower loan rates, higher interest on deposits, and lower fees. Hampering their ability to perform these services and to provide loans to families and small businesses will harm millions of American consumers and stifle economic growth and job creation.

That is why I am introducing legislation that will help ease the regulatory burden on credit unions while ensuring that the consumer protection-driven intent behind the regulations is maintained. I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure that the regulatory environment for our nation's credit unions and other financial institutions promotes safe and sound banking practices without stifling innovation and consumer choice.

Rep. Miller Joins Congressional Health Center Caucus
For many families in our region, particularly during this time of economic uncertainty, accessing quality medical care remains a significant and costly challenge. In the Inland Empire, Community Health Centers (CHCs) are providing health care services to thousands of low-income families and individuals. In addition to helping families in need access affordable health care, these centers support economic development by creating good local jobs in their communities. Recently, I joined the congressional Community Health Center Caucus to express my support for the good work that these centers are doing and to raise awareness among my colleagues of the vital services CHCs provide. I look forward to working in Congress to ensure that CHCs remain a vital component of our health care system.

Deadline for Entering Artistic Discovery Competition is April 15th
I would like to remind all high school students in the 31st Congressional District interested in this year's Artistic Discovery Congressional Art Competition that submissions must be received by my Rancho Cucamonga office by 5pm on Monday, April 15, 2013. Each student may submit one original piece of artwork for judging. The first place winner will have their artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building, and will receive two round-trip tickets to attend a special reception in Washington, D.C.

This year, residents of the District will have the opportunity to select their favorite "Best of Theme" entry, which will be displayed in the Rancho Cucamonga office. This year's theme is "Beauty of the Inland Empire." Entries for "Best of Theme" will be available for viewing on my Facebook page, with voting open from 5:00 pm on April 17th to 5:00 pm on April 19th. The winning entries will be announced at a special awards presentation on Saturday, April 20th. Students, parents, teachers, and friends are encouraged to attend:
