Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) issued the following statement regarding the House Energy and Commerce Committee's approval, through a bipartisan vote, to authorize construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline:
"The Keystone XL Northern Route Approval Act (H.R. 3) is common sense legislation that will create thousands of much needed jobs, lower energy prices, and make America more energy independent. This bill, which passed the House Energy and Commerce Committee with bipartisan support yesterday, eliminates the need for a Presidential Permit, and states that the Final Environmental Impact Statement issued by the Secretary of State in August of 2011 satisfies necessary requirements to move forward," Bill Johnson said.
Bill Johnson added, "The American people have waited far too long for this pipeline to be approved. In the meantime, they have been asking 'Where are the jobs?', and have been paying higher prices for fuel under this administration. It has been over four and a half years now; study after study, delay after delay, and it is time to move forward. I am confident this bipartisan legislation will be passed by the full House, and am hopeful that the Senate will follow suit."
