Today, U.S. Rep. Gregory W. Meeks (NY-05) issued the following statement on President Obama's budget proposal:
"President Obama's budget proposal demonstrates a balanced and fair way to reduce our deficit, strengthen the middle class, and grow the economy while creating jobs. The budget is a comprehensive plan that will invest in high-tech manufacturing and innovation, clean energy, and infrastructure, while cutting loopholes and red tape that will allow businesses to grow. This plan gives workers the skills they need to compete in the global economy, it invests in education from pre-school to job training, and represents more than $2 in spending cuts for every $1 of new revenue from closing tax loopholes and reducing tax benefits for the wealthiest.
"The President's budget is in accordance with his commitment to compromising with House Republicans and passing a balanced deal that asks all Americans to contribute their fair share not just the most vulnerable. The President is willing to make tough choices in order to replace Sequestrations devastating cuts and find common ground to further reduce the deficit, now it's time for Speaker Boehner to do his part.
Congress must come together to find common ground in order to advance our economy in the right direction, strengthen our middle class, and invest in our future."
