Rep. McCarthy on Holocaust Remembrance Day: Always Fight "Hatred, Evil and Complacency'

Location: Garden City, NY

Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY4) issued the following statement on the occasion of Holocaust Remembrance Day, which is today and officially observed on Monday, April 8.

"The U.S. Congress built the Holocaust Memorial Museum and established the weeklong Days of Remembrance, beginning with Holocaust Remembrance Day today, as our nation's formal commemoration of one of the darkest episodes in human history.

"Good people of the world must never forget the horrific genocide that happened less than a century ago, and always fight to prevent the kind of hatred, evil and complacency that allowed it to happen.

"I'm proud to be a member of a body that places so much importance on commemorating the Holocaust, a tragic period that must never be forgotten by people protecting the innocent and fighting injustice all over the world."
