Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-07) today issued the following statement on the passing of Margaret Thatcher, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

"I join those around the world in mourning the passing of Margaret Thatcher. She was one of the giants of the 20th century, an inspiring global leader who stood side-by-side with President Reagan in confronting the Soviet Union and ending the Cold War.

"Her unwavering commitment to free-market principles, individual liberty and economic freedom helped transform Britain and forever changed its political and social landscape. As Britain's first woman prime minister and the first woman elected to lead a major western power, Margaret Thatcher inspired a generation of women and men far beyond the British Isles.

"My wife Heidi and I extend our heartfelt sympathies to the Thatcher family and to the people of Great Britain."
