Sen. Brown Statement On Gun Violence Prevention Legislation

Statement

Date: April 11, 2013
Location: Washington, DC
Issues: Guns

U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) released the following statement after voting to open debate on legislation aimed at curbing gun violence:

"Ohio children and Ohio families whose lives have been shattered by gun violence deserve a vote on the Senate floor.

"With some 90 percent of Americans supporting background checks, we know that the status quo is unacceptable," Brown said. "Never again should there be an empty chair at a high school graduation in Chardon, or anywhere in Ohio, because a child's life was cut short by gun violence.

"It's just common sense to keep firearms out of the hands of convicted felons. I hope the debate ahead will result in bipartisan solutions on the challenges we face to keep our communities safe."
