Rep. Bera Comments on Nomination of Sri Srinivasan to the D.C. Circuit Court

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Ami Bera made the following statement on President Obama's nomination of Sri Srinivasan to the D.C. Circuit Court:

"Sri Srinivasan would be an outstanding court of appeals judge. He is widely regarded as one of the best legal minds in the country. His integrity, wealth of experience, and education make him extremely well equipped to serve as a judge on the D.C. Circuit, one of our country's most important courts. His appointment would make history and be a proud moment for the Indian American and broader Asian American communities, and his qualifications are indisputable. He should be speedily confirmed by the U.S. Senate."

Srinivasan is currently principal U.S. deputy solicitor general and is a former clerk for Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. He's successfully worked for both Republican and Democratic Administrations and has bipartisan support from the legal community. If confirmed, he would become the first Asian American on the D.C. Circuit and the first Indian American to serve as a federal circuit court judge. Srinivasan is scheduled to appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee for a confirmation hearing on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.

Rep. Bera took part in a meeting with Srinivasan and members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus earlier today. He will attend tomorrow's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing to consider Srinivasan and will be available for comment afterwards upon request.
