Sinema Brings 100 Days of Homework to Congress, Plans to Introduce Bill Tonight

Today, Congresswoman Sinema returned to Washington after working with local leaders to gather data on the Phoenix metropolitan area's job market. This is the latest in Sinema's ongoing work to bring the case of her district's uniquely poised economic potential to Congress. Sinema plans to introduce her first bill tonight as a result of her first 100 days in Congress and collaborative work with local leaders.

Sinema began her effort in December by meeting with a bipartisan group of mayors from her district to discuss how she can help from Washington. Directed by her early meetings, Sinema began working with local leaders, employers and elected officials to assemble her appeal for them in Congress. Sinema continues to tour small businesses and large employers in her district as part of her Congress at Work outreach program.

During her two-week work period in Arizona, Sinema told local reporters about her interest in her community's proven growth in the high tech and bioscience sectors.

The Phoenix metropolitan area which includes Tempe, Scottsdale, Mesa and Chandler was recently reported to be one the of the "fastest-growing tech markets" in the country. (azcentral.com, Mar 11, 2013)

Sinema previewed the content of her bill by stating:

"Arizona is on the frontier of America's new economic future and this bill is a piece of our community's potential. The central metropolitan corridor that I have the honor of representing is uniquely positioned for job growth and I came to Congress to help see that it happens. We have institutional partners like Arizona State University who help us break ground by incubating the world's most innovative enterprises. As the largest public university in the country, ASU also recruits the world's brightest talent and turns them into our nation's best workforce. We have new, proven seed companies that are farming our economic landscape with successful and marketable innovations. And we have large industry partners like Intel and Honeywell who employ thousands in our community.

"This bill will invest in America's future by helping these proven, innovative companies in our local community grow their capacity and hire workers. I'm confident that we can do this by adapting historically successful tax credits for 21st businesses that create American jobs. I'm optimistic about this effort and I look forward to introducing its merits to my colleagues."
