Franks Statement in Honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day

Location: Unknown

"We pay tribute today to the survivors of one of the most depraved displays of abject evil in human history: the Holocaust.

"We must never forget the atrocities and crimes committed against the Jewish People, leading to the brutal murder of over five million people -- including one million precious children -- whose only 'crime' was their Jewish faith and heritage.

"Yet amazingly, despite enduring tragedy of inexpressible proportions, the Jewish people -- a people whose history is replete with countless encounters with an ethos of baseless hatred -- showed the world their resolve, wiped away their tears, and built life anew; they built new communities, they built a state, and they made Jerusalem blossom into a flourishing city that is now, despite continued threats, far safer than under any previous regime over the last 3000 years.

"In light of such resilience, descendants of the same generation that a twisted dictator would have seen purged entirely from the world now walk in freedom around the world, including in America and Israel, the lands of freedom and liberty and of milk and honey, respectively.

"May we continue to stand with our most trusted friend in the world, Israel, and with the Jewish people the world over. As the famous inscription from the siege of Masada states, 'let us always remember.'"
