Arizona Public Media - Kirkpatrick: Congress Better 2nd Time Around

U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, D-Ariz., says after 100 days of her congressional term, she sees a significant difference from the term she served from 2009 to 2011.

A spirit of bipartisanship exists among this term's freshmen, Kirkpatrick says. The Flagstaff congresswoman, whose district stretches to just north of Tucson, sat out two years after being defeated by Republican Paul Gosar in the 2010 election.

Redistricting pushed Gosar into another seat, and Kirkpatrick reclaimed her spot, defeating Republican Jonathan Paton of Tucson in November 2012.

"We listened to the American people in the last election," Kirkpatrick says, "and they told us they want members of Congress who could reach across the aisle, get things done, provide our country with solutions and move forward. "

Kirkpatrick says she hopes immigration reform is passed in this term, and she says it is the reason she got into congressional politics.
