Congresswoman Renee Ellmers released the following statement this morning following the news of the death of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher:

"This morning, the world was saddened to hear of the death of a profound and courageous woman. Margaret Thatcher was so much more than a trailblazer, statesman, and leader - she was a guiding light when the world was drowning in darkness."

"The daughter of a grocer grew up to become the leader of a great nation, and one that brought that country freedom and prosperity as it was suffocating under the toils of state-run industries. She also stood strong for liberty abroad as an aggressive Soviet superpower continued its pursuit of world domination. Her legacy will remain in our hearts as a woman of action, honor, and dignity who never ceased to stand for her principles. My thoughts and prayers go out to the British people as they mourn and celebrate the life of a truly great leader of the free world - and one of my personal heroes."
