Hoyer Holds Conference Call with 5th District Make It In America Advisory Committee, Stakeholders

Location: Washington, DC

This afternoon, Congressman Steny H. Hoyer (MD-5) held a conference call with his Fifth District Make It In America Advisory Committee and other stakeholders to discuss his updated Make It In America plan for the 113th Congress to strengthen domestic manufacturing and job creation.

"I thank the Fifth District Make It In America Advisory Committee for joining me on this call today to discuss the updated Make It In America plan for the 113th Congress," stated Congressman Hoyer. "Last year, I was pleased to establish the Advisory Committee to receive their input on how we can strengthen manufacturing and create well-paying jobs here at home. In my discussions with them, and with stakeholders from around the country, I have heard the same four issues raised, which have now become the focus of the Make It In America plan: adopt and pursue a national manufacturing strategy; promote the export of U.S. goods; encourage businesses to bring jobs and innovation back to the U.S.; and train and secure a 21st century workforce. These key components will help businesses expand and grow, and I believe they have the greatest chance of securing support from both sides of the aisle."

"I'm hopeful both parties can come together to enact these bills so more businesses and families can Make It In America and here in Maryland," continued Congressman Hoyer. "I look forward to working with my Advisory Committee and other stakeholders to continue moving the Make It In America plan forward, and appreciate all that they do to make our state and our nation prosperous."

Congressman Hoyer unveiled the four key priorities of the updated Make It In America plan in a speech earlier this week. He also joined his colleagues to unveil Make It In America bills that can advance these four areas. Click here to view a full list of Make It In America legislation for the 113th Congress.

Congressman Hoyer also reminded participants on the conference call of the Make It In America Challenge, $40 million in competitive grant funding made available by the Obama Administration to help American companies bring jobs back to the U.S. and invest here, as well as assist businesses looking to expand and train American workers. The deadline to apply for grants is May 31, 2013.
