U.S. Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), a current member and former Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement today after voting against proceeding to gun control legislation:
"This is a very important issue that could impact the Second Amendment rights of every American, and it deserves a thoughtful debate. But the fact is that we don't even know what's in the gun control legislation because the text of it hasn't been made public. I cannot in good conscience move forward on a proposal based on an outline and talking points. Let's take the time to understand what's in this legislation, what it will and won't do, and how it impacts every American citizen, before voting on it."
