U.S. Representative Blake Farenthold today responded to the President's budget by introducing a bill, H.R. 1457, which would require federal departments and agencies to submit to Congress a budget plan that reflects a 5 percent reduction from the amount proposed for them in the President's budget.
"The President's budget represents his insatiable appetite for more of our tax dollars. It calls for $1.1 trillion in new taxes, which means even more taken out of every single paycheck. The budget shows no realistic effort to cut down on even the most excessive and wasteful government spending programs, and instead increases each American household's share of the debt to nearly $70,000. It takes money away from you and your family, and sends it to Washington, D.C., where the President and his bureaucrats think they can spend it better. I could not disagree more.
"As a countermeasure to the President's bloated budget, today I introduced H.R. 1457, the Fiscal Instruction for a Vibrant Economy (FIVE) Act. This legislation will require federal departments and agencies to submit to Congress budget plans that reflect a 5 percent reduction from the amounts proposed in the President's budget.
"The FIVE Act is based upon the simple principle that you can only spend the money you have. It's a principle that families in the district I represent, as well as families across the country, live by every day."
