Coats Applauds Passage of Amendment Calling for Repeal of Obamacare's Medical Device Tax

Location: Washington, DC

Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) issued the following statement tonight regarding passage of a bipartisan amendment he cosponsored to the Fiscal Year 2014 Senate Budget Resolution that would call for repeal of the 2.3 percent excise tax on medical device manufacturers included in the president's health care law:

"I am pleased several Senate Democrats now are supporting the call to repeal Obamacare's harmful $30 billion tax on medical device manufacturers," said Coats. "The medical device tax in the president's health care law jeopardizes Hoosier jobs, increases costs on consumers and impedes critical innovation. Tonight's vote to repeal this damaging tax is a step in the right direction, but the fight continues to reverse the entire health care law and replace it with a plan that reduces costs, increases the quality of care and puts patients in the driver's seat."

The medical device tax repeal amendment, introduced by Senators Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) and Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and cosponsored by Coats, passed the Senate 79-20.
