Olson Statement on the Passing of Margaret Thatcher

Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22) today issued the following statement upon learning that former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher passed away:

"The United States lost a remarkable and true friend today. Margaret Thatcher served the world as a staunch defender of liberty and a steadfast leader for her beloved Great Britain. As Britain's longest-serving prime minister, and the only woman to have held the post, the "Iron Lady" repaved a strong path for free markets, free people and democratic rule. Along with Ronald Reagan and Pope John Paul II, she held firm against the peril of the Soviet Union and helped dismantle the greatest threat to freedom and peace since the Nazis. Her legacy will endure for the ages and continue to inspire those who will promote and defend freedom for generations to come. May God bless Margaret Thatcher."
