Congressman Cantor: It's Time To Stop Making Excuses, Start Working Together On Common Sense Solutions

Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Eric Cantor (VA-07) released the following statement on the national jobs report for March 2013:

"Today's jobs report is disappointing. As former Obama economic advisor Austan Goolsbee said, "This is a punch to the gut.' Our economy is not creating enough jobs, and too many working men and women are still in the unemployment line. And this is the lowest workforce participation rate since 1979. Sadly, people are simply giving up, and losing hope.

"For months, we've heard plenty of excuses from the White House and Congressional Democrats for why unemployment remains high. It's time to stop making excuses and start working together on common sense solutions to address our lingering unemployment problem, and the stagnant economy.

"In March, the House passed the SKILLS Act to streamline the current maze of job training programs and help folks develop the skills they need to compete for good jobs in their area. This is the type of common sense idea that we all should be able to agree is necessary. If the President has a different approach to fixing these training programs, as he has said, I encourage him to bring it to the table, and let's get to work. Let's make smart reforms, create opportunity and make life work for more families."
