Congressman Adam Kinzinger (IL-16) today issued the following statement in support of the House Republicans' FY 2014 budget proposal:
"With more than $16 trillion in debt and growing by the day, it's no secret that we cannot continue down this reckless trajectory. Today's House-passed plan balances the budget in 10 years, which could result in $7 billion in a surplus and 5 million new jobs. The House budget also maintains our commitment to strengthen and protect Medicare now and for future generations.
"Unfortunately, the Senate's solution fails to balance the budget, imposes a nearly $1 trillion tax increase, and doesn't include a plan to protect entitlements. Meanwhile, the President has yet to put forward his own budget proposal.
"We've kicked the can down the road for too long and now, there's no more road left. The House budget refuels our economy; protects the security of health and retirement plans; and begins to reduce our deficit now, leaving our children with a true path toward prosperity."
