Letter to Majority Leader Harry Reid - Opposition to Increase in Gun Restrictions

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) signed a letter with Sens. Mike Lee (R-Utah), Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Ted Cruz (R-Texas), and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D- Nev.) pledging to oppose any legislation that increases gun restrictions.

"Instead of promoting legislation that will only infringe on the rights of law-abiding citizens, the President should focus on enforcing the laws that are already in place," said Inhofe. "My amendment to the Senate Budget preventing the U.S. from entering into the U.N. Arms Trade Treaty was an important first-step in protecting our Second Amendment rights. As the President looks to rush gun-control legislation through Congress, I will continue to work with my colleagues Sens. Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Rand Paul, and Marco Rubio to protect and preserve the constitutional rights of Americans."

Inhofe introduced an amendment to the Senate Budget Resolution last week that prevents the United States from entering into the United Nations (U.N.) Arms Trade Treaty, which is currently being negotiated at the U.N. Amendment 139 passed by a 53-46 vote and was the only gun rights amendment included in the Budget.
