Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham delivered a strong rebuttal today against the Ryan Budget, which was debated on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives.

"This misguided and cruel plan abandons the economic recovery, it is a path to greater disparity, and rewards the affluent while further squeezing the middle class," Rep. Lujan Grisham said during debate. She pointed out that the Ryan Budget would cost about 2 million jobs next year, while reducing critical services, programs and protections for women, families and seniors.

Rep. Lujan Grisham offered an amendment the Ryan Budget during last week's consideration in the House Budget Committee, to protect health care for seniors and those nearing retirement, and protect the physical, mental and spiritual health of Native Americans. Republicans rejected the improvements, and Rep. Lujan Grisham's amendments.

Rep. Lujan Grisham supported the budget plan crafted by House Democrats as a more balanced approach that creates jobs and invests in priorities like affordable, quality health care.

"There is an important nexus between job creation and the health care system, which can secure a strong future that produces long-term growth if we make the right decisions," Rep. Lujan Grisham said. "We need to invest in critical infrastructure like the health care system as a key way to create jobs here at home and protect our most vulnerable citizens."
