Saluting Arkansas Men and Women in Uniform

Location: Unknown

Whether it's securing pay raises for our troops, helping a veteran get a small business off the ground, or awarding a long-awaited medal, I've made it one of my top priorities to support our men and women in uniform. Check out what I'm working on, and let me know if you have any suggestions about other ways I can help.

Giving Military Retirees the Honor They Deserve

Did you know that the current definition of a veteran applies only to servicemembers who have served on active duty? This means that thousands of individuals who have served in the Guard and Reserve for decades, through no fault of their own, are not allowed to call themselves veterans. I've teamed up with Senator John Boozman on a bipartisan--and cost-neutral--bill to amend this definition, and give Guard and Reserve Retirees with 20 years of service the honor of being called a veteran. This is a small step we can take to make a big difference to those who have served.

Restoring Tuition Assistance for Our Servicemembers

Over the past month, I've heard from dozens of concerned servicemembers about cuts to Tuition Assistance, and how this will impact their future educational plans. That's why I supported a bipartisan amendment that would restore Tuition Assistance through September of this year. I appreciate everyone who reached out to me. I'm continuing to work with my Senate colleagues on a permanent solution, and I'll keep you updated as we find out more.

Thanking Arkansas Troops in Afghanistan

Last week, with the help of Arkansans like you, my office sent care packages filled with postcards and Juanita's of Arkadelphia's famous peanut brittle to Arkansas service members stationed in Afghanistan. These care packages are a simple way to thank our troops and let them know there's a community of Arkansans supporting their work and awaiting their safe return.

Reducing Veteran Unemployment

As a member of the bipartisan Congressional Veterans Jobs Caucus, I want to do my part to raise awareness about veteran unemployment. That's why I proudly display the "I Hire Veterans" sign in my office to show my commitment to hiring veterans and their family members. I hope companies in Arkansas who hire veterans will download the logo from my website and post it in their workplace. Let's work together to get our veterans back to work.
