Appearing on MSNBC this morning, Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05) discussed his ongoing efforts to rebuild manufacturing cities like Flint, Saginaw and Bay City by supporting new investments to rebuild infrastructure and attract new businesses. Today's interview on "The Daily Rundown" with Chuck Todd was Congressman Kildee's first national interview since being sworn in as a Member of Congress.
"Michigan and places like Flint, Saginaw and Bay City are part of the old industrial strength [of America]," Congressman Kildee said this morning on MSNBC. "Manufacturing in the twenty-first century requires a different set of capacities. This is one of the things I'm pushing for is to get more support from the state and federal government -- in this case, the federal government -- to remove blight and abandonment, so that we can have a fresh start and attract business, attract new investment and rebuild infrastructure in around a population that's more realistic for this period."
Since being in Congress, Congressman Kildee has been a strong advocate for America's manufacturing sector. Last week, he took to the floor of the House of Representatives to speak about legislation he's supporting, part of the "Make It in America' agenda, to create good-paying jobs and promote economic growth in Michigan and the rest of the nation.
"Manufacturing continues to be a bright spot in our economic recovery," Congressman Kildee said on the House floor. "Since 2010, the U.S. has added over a half million manufacturing jobs -- that's progress. But in a time where millions of Americans continue to struggle, we can -- and must -- do more. Congress should be working every day to rebuild our economy and create good-paying jobs right here in America, not overseas."
