Congresswoman Hahn Releases Statement On House Republican Budget

Statement

Congresswoman Janice Hahn (CA-44) released the following statement today regarding the House Republican Budget:

"Today, the Republicans and Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan have once again put forth a budget that fails to meet the moral code of our nation. There is no morality in a budget that takes food from the mouths of struggling families while slashing taxes for millionaires and billionaires. There is no morality in a budget that balances on the backs of the middle class, the elderly and the disabled. There is no morality in a budget that does nothing to create jobs, and everything to free Wall Street bankers to run our economy into the ground again. There is no morality in turning Medicare into a voucher program, and withdrawing support for those hard working Americans trying to get affordable health insurance.

There is no courage in making "hard choices" that fall on those who already have it the hardest. I will not support a budget whose callousness is as clear as its math is fuzzy.

At a time when so many Americans are struggling to make ends meet, we must do more, not less to provide a strong safety net for American families. We need a budget that invests in our infrastructure, and education to ensure America remains globally competitive in this century. I look forward to working with my colleagues to put forward a balanced approach to cut spending responsibly, while ensuring continued job growth, strengthening of the middle class and protection of America's moral code."
