Today, Congresswoman Karen Bass (D-Calif.) released the following statement in response to the release of the Republican budget:
"Today Paul Ryan and House Republicans released a rehashed budget that offers the American people more of the same failed policies they already rejected in the last election. The GOP budget would only undermine job growth, jeopardize the Medicare social guarantee to our seniors and cut programs needed to make critical investments in America's future while protecting tax breaks for the wealthiest Americans and special interests groups.
"Democrats agree we need to balance the budget and unlike Republicans, we have put forward plans that pay down the nation's deficits without breaking the backs of the middle class, seniors and students doing everything they can to get a good education and live the American dream. Furthermore, this budget lacks seriousness because it relies on repealing the Affordable Care Act -- something that has already failed to happen despite the House voting to either repeal, defund or invalidate the law in some way more than 30 times.
"Election season is over and the American people expect us to work together to find a balanced approach to reducing our deficits and restoring economic growth. I had hoped my Republican colleagues had gotten that message last November, but the budget they put forward today shows they remain committed to the same failed policies of the past."
