Rep. Slaughter Responds to House GOP VAWA Proposal

Rochester, NY- Today, Rep. Louise Slaughter released the following statement regarding the House Republican's proposed legislation.

"When we wrote the original Violence Against Women Act in 1994, we never intended for it to exclude or discriminate against anyone; unfortunately, that's exactly what the Republican proposal does," said Rep. Slaughter. "I cannot support a bill that says Native Americans, LGBT victims, and immigrant women don't deserve the same protection from domestic violence as other Americans. I'm calling again on the House GOP to finally bring the inclusive Senate version of VAWA to the floor for an up-or-down vote."

On January 23, 2013, Rep. Slaughter spoke at a press conference calling on Republicans in the House of Representatives to bring the Senate version of the Violence Against Women Act to the House floor for an up-or-down vote.
