Statement of Congressman Lynch on Voting Against Ryan Budget

Location: Washington, DC

"Today, I voted against the House budget resolution, H. Con. Res. 25, offered by Congressman Paul Ryan and House Republicans because it takes this country in the wrong direction. We face many challenges, including our growing national debt, but we will only solve these challenges when we work together in a bipartisan way to craft a balanced solution, one that is grounded in shared sacrifice and does not balance our budget on the backs of seniors and working families. The Ryan budget takes us further from that goal.

A budget is more than a spending document. It is a statement of our values and a vision of the direction in which we want to take our country. The Ryan budget values privatizing Medicare over strengthening seniors' retirement security. It values giveaways to special interest groups over investments in infrastructure that create good-paying American jobs. And the Ryan budget values tax breaks for the super rich over the needs of working families and the poor.

That is a vision I cannot support, and that is why I voted against the Ryan budget."
