Rep. Young on Senate Budget: "Hugely Important' Step, but Lack of Balance Despite Massive Tax Increases is Shocking

Location: Unknown

Later today Democrats on the Senate Budget Committee, led by Chairwoman Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), will release and mark-up their FY14 Budget. This is the first budget the Senate has produced in four years. Rep. Todd Young (R-IN9), a former member of the House Budget Committee and current members of the House Committee on Ways and Means, released the following statement in anticipation of its release:

"First and foremost, I want to commend Senator Patty Murray for taking the time to draft the first Senate budget in four years. Ever since I took office, I've said both sides need to set priorities and put concrete and specific plans on the table, so this is a hugely important step in the process of solving our nation's biggest challenges."

"If initial reports are accurate, I'm frankly a little shocked that Senate Democrats want $1 trillion in new taxes--on top of the $1 trillion in taxes in Obamacare and the nearly $650 billion in tax hikes the President signed into law in January--and yet still can't produce a plan that ever spends less than it brings in."

"Nevertheless, I hope we can begin to identify common ground between the House and Senate budgets from which we can seriously address our debt, spending and economic challenges. As the Senate finally begins working through their bill later today, Hoosiers can't afford for us to let partisan sniping get in the way of real solutions."--Rep. Todd Young (R-IN9)
