Young on House Budget Proposal: Proof We Can Solve Problems if We Stop Spending Money We Don't have

Statement

Congressman Todd Young (IN-9) released the following statement today after Republicans on the House Budget Committee unveiled their FY2014 federal budget.

"I applaud Chairman Ryan and the Budget Committee for once again drafting a principled budget that lays out specific steps to balance our nation's finances. That the committee was able to achieve balance within the ten year window--even while preserving, protecting and strengthening programs like Medicaid and Medicare--is an impressive accomplishment. This is exactly the sort of plan our country needs in order to create jobs and grow middle class incomes."

"More than anything else, this budget is proof that we can responsibly and gradually solve our nation's problems if we adhere to one basic directive from the American people: Washington should stop spending money it doesn't have. As the President and Senate prepare their own proposals, the onus is on them to show the American people how they would achieve similar balanced budgets. I look forward to reviewing all these proposals as we seek to solve some major challenges facing our country."

Young served as a member of the House Budget Committee in his first term. This term he is serving on the House Ways and Means Committee which has jurisdiction over some of the largest pieces of the budget proposal, including tax reform, Medicare reform, and reforms to welfare programs.

Indiana's 9th District includes all or parts of Brown, Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Jackson, Johnson Lawrence, Monroe, Morgan, Orange, Scott, and Washington Counties in southeastern Indiana.
