U.S. Rep. Billy Long issued the following statement after voting in favor of the House Fiscal Year 2014 Budget Resolution, called the Path to Prosperity:
"American families have been making the tough choices to balance their budgets. Washington should do the same. The House budget resolution stops wasting taxpayers' hard-earned dollars and starts our country down the path to a balanced budget and getting control of our nation's debt.
"Entry level jobs are the first to go when the economy is doing poorly. We risk wasting years of job experience and development for our nation's young people, who are the future of America, if we don't get the economy growing again. The best way to grow the economy is to decrease the amount of the economy being eaten up by the federal government. The House budget resolution is a pathway to growth for our nation."
The House FY14 budget resolution reduces spending by $4.6 trillion over the next ten years and balances the budget. The budget resolution lowers taxes by closing loopholes and moving the country to just two tax rates -- 10 percent and 25 percent. The House budget blueprint gives states more flexibility to tailor programs to their people's needs and protects the promises we've made to senior citizens.
