Stutzman on Anniversary of ObamaCare: "Three Years of Massive Debt, Higher Premiums, and Job Losses is Nothing to Celebrate"

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Congressman Marlin Stutzman issued the following statement today, marking ObamaCare's three-year anniversary on Saturday and applauding the Senate for following the House's lead in seeking to repeal the law's medical device tax.

"Three years of massive debt, higher premiums, and job losses is nothing to celebrate" said Stutzman. "Democrats used their Washington monopoly to jam through President Obama's budget-busting, $1.88 trillion health care law and patients are now facing the consequences of putting government controls ahead of patient-centered reforms. ObamaCare is raising premiums on families by an average of $255 each month, threatening to eliminate more than 2,000 Hoosier medical device jobs, and putting an unelected board of bureaucrats in charge of care for seniors.

"Nearly three years after this law was passed, I am pleased that the Democrat-controlled Senate has joined House Republicans in voting to abolish ObamaCare's destructive 2.3 percent tax on medical devices. I will continue to work to repeal ObamaCare entirely and enact reforms that empower patients instead of growing the federal government."

Congressman Stutzman is an original co-sponsor of H.R. 523, the Protect Medical Innovation Act. The legislation eliminates the 2.3 percent tax on medical device sales included in ObamaCare.

Yesterday, the House of Representatives passed H. Con. Res. 25, The Path to Prosperity, a reasonable, balanced budget for Fiscal Year 2014 which called for the repeal of ObamaCare's medical device tax.

· Last night the Senate, by a vote of 79-20, passed an amendment to the Senate Budget Resolution that would repeal ObamaCare's medical device tax.
Congressman Stutzman represents the 3rd Congressional District of Indiana and serves on the House Committee on Financial Services. Indiana's 3rd District contains all of Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, Jay, Lagrange, Noble, Steuben, Wells, and Whitley counties, as well as parts of Blackford and Kosciusko counties.
